Understanding the X Drive
By Maplerobot
A Tank Drive is a simple drive train consisting of c-channels, 4 traction wheels or 2 traction and 2 omni wheels. The omni wheels that may be on the robot are locked since locking an omni wheel will optimize turning.
How we built the X-drive
- We researched the x-drive and its structures.
- Then we decided on the dimensions of the x-drive
- Created a to scale model of the x-drive
- We cut the c channels to the correct lengths
- We used our 3d model to create the first basic structure with some cardboard to plan it out.
- We then cut the c-channel for the frame
- Then we used actual c-channels to make the basic frame of the robot
- After that we attached the wheels to the robot and finished the basic frame of the robot.
- After that we will add the brain and different sensors
